Ricardo U

Ricardo Urbina is a Mexican dancer, choreographer, and creative artist whose work connects classical ballet training, contemporary performance, queer authorship, and interdisciplinary movement. Born in Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico, he trained in his home city before continuing his studies at Idyllwild Arts Academy in California and the School of the Hamburg Ballet.

After graduating, Ricardo danced with Bundesjugendballett from 2016 to 2018 and joined Hamburg Ballet – John Neumeier in 2018. He later danced with Ballet Kiel, where he appeared as a soloist during the 2023/24 season, before continuing as a freelance dancer and choreographer. Ricardo's choreographic work became especially visible through I AM DIFFERENT, his first full-length piece, presented at Kampnagel during Tanztriennale. The work redefines traditional ballet pas de deux structures and breaks with classical role distribution. Inspired by the Muxe, recognized as a third gender in Mexico, the piece creates a space for personal storytelling and connects tradition, discipline, identity, and the experience of otherness.

Ricardo's work brings together Mexican heritage, Hamburg Ballet training, institutional stage experience, and personal choreographic authorship. It is suited to stage projects, queer performance, contemporary ballet, fashion, editorial shoots, commercial movement, choreography, and productions seeking a dancer with both classical foundation and a clear artistic voice.
